It's an excellent way for her to get them! She gets the social interaction with others, yet she'll still maintain her personal space that they desperately need. It's funny because most people shut down in front of a crowd and do better one-on-one. Cheyenne is just the opposite. She has issues dealing with people on an intimate level, but she LOVES to perform in front of a crowd.

The best advice in dealing with other kids labeling your daughter as 'different' is this: Explain to her that it is her family and her true friends who love her no matter what. That seemed to work very well with Noah. Cheyenne could care less what others think of her, and that's something we're thankful for. That may change, but we hope not. It'll make her life much easier.

Take care and God bless, j!blackandgoldfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14466365468884484194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1439203042410146973.post-73846226565690373382009-08-22T11:00:34.240-04:002009-08-22T11:00:34.240-04:00Great post!

She is such a sweet person, but is a little behind in socialization for her age. I always hope that the other kids will see how kind and caring she is and not care about her quirks.

We also work on her social skills, and try to find ways for her to interact with other kids outside of school. This week she even asked to join a cheer leading team here in our town. I think there is one. Vaccines containing mercury, IMO, may be the catalyst to trigger the autism. Studies say that isn't the case, but there isn't any solid evidence either way. Cheyenne has never been vaccinated, but Noah has. Her autistic tendencies were never as severe as his.

I also thought about the theory of food additives after reading your post on food. There are so many more chemicals in today's food, as you so wonderfully stated. Could that be the trigger? Very much so.

Better diagnosing criteria could also explain the rise.blackandgoldfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14466365468884484194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1439203042410146973.post-67729857120980669422009-08-22T09:02:12.188-04:002009-08-22T09:02:12.188-04:00Teresa: Good morning, sweetie!
Thank you so much ...Teresa: Good morning, sweetie!

Thank you so much for your kind words. I've been truly blessed for having high-functioning kids (both Noah and Cheyenne are) that can communicate and enjoy life.

While they still have their quirks, we work on social skills on a daily basis. Noah has coped well. He knows he's different, but that doesn't keep him from being a very polite and friendly kid. He's really great.

Cheyenne needs more work than Noah only because she doesn't understand that you can't talk about certain things in certain situations. All our friends know that having her at a dinner gathering usually means she's going to talk about poop or boogers, but they understand. She's a bit delayed on where her peers are, but then there are areas where she is age-appropriate. It's more about changing what she's become used to. For instance, she watches Playhouse Disney (for younger kids and toddlers), but yet she is into Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers. She's my little chameleon.

I appreciate your offer. You're such an angel! Heaven knows that there are times I could use a break!

Take care, my OBOF (other best online friend)!!!blackandgoldfanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14466365468884484194noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1439203042410146973.post-91498462916474053482009-08-22T08:33:10.409-04:002009-08-22T08:33:10.409-04:00Why do you feel the numbers of autistic children a...Why do you feel the numbers of autistic children are on the rise in the United States?Timeshare Jakehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03784047363593719824noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1439203042410146973.post-2846890309070860052009-08-22T08:29:27.613-04:002009-08-22T08:29:27.613-04:00Good Morning :)

That with hard work and encouragement, as well as other use of necessary tools to help these challenged kids, that yes these children do indeed have hope to be able to accomplish anything. I have some friends in Mt. Lebanon and their daughter has Aspergers Syndrome. She is actually in her early-20's now and doing very well with adjusting to the disease. Her mom is a long time advocate for children with forms of Autism and other disabilities. For years I can remember her going to a social skills class and I know that helped her very much.

Good Luck with going through all the trials and tribulations of parenting a child with autism. You are a wonderful mother who loves and cares her kids very much. God is watching over you and guiding you and your kids as well. If you ever need someone to talk to, or need a get together for a break, I'd love to pass along my phone number. Just let me know.Teresahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16040553825059591114noreply@blogger.com
