That's MS. Bosslady, Thank You!!!
After a hectic week, it's time for me to sit down and type a few syllables. Just when I think that life can't get any more hectic, it does.
I worked the weekend at my cousin's sports bar. Not the best job a person could have, but it's honest work. And working is what I do. In fact I've been given the nickname APB (all-purpose bitch) because I'll do any job that needs to be done. I'm not above scrubbing toilets if it needs done. Well, now I can add "co-manager" to the list of titles I hold there.
My cousin had hired a guy to manage the place. Thinking this guy was going to do a boffo job, it just didn't pan out that way. He wanted to make changes but on a grand scale that would've involved lots of money that wasn't his. Problem was that changes needed to be made on a smaller scale first. After one week (of which he only showed up two days), he's gone.
My cousin's girlfriend (who is one smart cookie; if he ever gets rid of her, I'll kick his ass) and I are now tag-teaming the managerial duties of the bar. We may not own it, but, by God, we're running it. And it's not going over very well with some of the staff. They've become accustomed to having free reins for far too long. Too bad. Don't like it? There's the door.
I never dreamed that I would one day be running a business. I have no formal business education, but I have ideas that just seem to make sense. I hope it's enough to make the business successful. The girlfriend and I have only my cousin's best interests at heart, and we're going to do what's right for his business. That's where our loyalties lie.
The hostessing job I once held has been eliminated. Instead, I'll be waiting tables just like the other girls. The girlfriend said that if I'm going to be there, I may as well make some money other than payroll. See why I like her so much?
Right now, we're still getting our feet wet and playing catch-up to things that had been overlooked for too long. Nonetheless, we're excited about this venture.
So from now on, the staff can just call me MS. Bosslady. I think, though, that before too long, they'll be calling me a whole host of other names if they haven't done so already.

APB ... I love that!
And congrats, Ms. Bosslady. You'll do just fine.
Snarkey: Thanks for the encouragement. I'm nervous, but I think as time goes on I'll gain some confidence.
APB fits! ;-)
You'll always be black and gold fan to me.
Thanks, BB. *humbled*
it can't be a real sports bar unless it contains some RED WINGS items. do you need me to send you a giant flag for above the bar?
jsumm: Maybe not above the bar. Safety issues. But we could line the urinals with it! :-D
APB...awesome...can that also be "All Purpose Basterd"?
If so I may change my name to "The Original APB"
Red Wings...BAH...I can get you some Blues merchandise...and maybe something from the Chiefs or perhaps Rams?
You will do great BNG, it doesn't take an MBA...common sense is good business sense, and I know you have that. I deal with people every day who are educated beyond their intelligence.
Congrats! That is great news. You are a natural to run things B & G! After my hellish week, I'm trying to catch up. I am so happy for YOU! God is watching out for you too WTG, BOF.
When you institute changes the lazy "coworkers" will be calling you LOTS of names...heheee hee.
At least your cousin owns the place, so you should be safe> I'm very proud of you! You'll do great!
I'm glad you can get tips too.
I sent you an email, when you get a free minute, call me! I can give you lots of management advise.
Like Conan, I'm "Employee of the week"
he he he ha ha ha. after yesterday, I'm just saying
Who's ur daddy, bitches" he he, (to myself, of course).
Congrats seem to be in order.. and most definitely wishes for the best of luck in your new Bosslady role!
KOOK: APB for men by your definition is great!!!
While I appreciate everyone's suggestions for the decor of the place, I believe that we'd have angry mobs with pitchforks and torches if we'd hang anything but Pittsburgh stuff. It's a 'burgh thing.
BOF: Thanks, hon!!! It's gonna be a bumpy ride, but once things are put in place and run more efficiently, it'll get better. At least that's my wish.
I will call you to get the scoop. Keep fighting the good fight, sweetie!
Thanks, Soloman. I just hope that the transition goes smoothly. I'm not holding my breath, though.
