Islam Honored on September 11?

A sequential look at United Flight 175 crashin...Image via Wikipedia

According to worldnetdaily.com, the New York City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday that recommends the school district shut down on two important Muslim holidays. What they failed to say is that in some years, those holidays could fall on September 11. The resolution itself is non-binding and at odds with Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The holidays, Eid al-Adha and Eid al-Fitr, commemorate the Muslim belief of Abraham sacrificing his son, Ishmail (not Isaac as Christians and Jews believe), and the ending of Ramadan, the Islamic fasting period.

Islamic holidays are set based on the lunar calendar, meaning the dates corresponding to the Gregorian calendar change each year. Eid al-Adha falls on Sept. 11 in the year 2016, according to the accepted Umm al-Qura calendar.

Eid al-Fitr, meanwhile, will begin at sunset Sept. 9 and continue to sunset Sept. 10 next year. The dates, though, depend on the official citing of the new crescent moon as certified by the Saudi "hilal committee," which at times has shifted holidays by one or two days, meaning Eid-al-Fitr could technically also be celebrated on Sept. 11 in 2010.

What a slap in the face to (a) the American people (b) the families who lost loved ones on that fateful day, and (c) our brave men and women fighting against those who helped perpetrate the worst terrorist attack this country has ever seen. The New York City Council should hang their heads in shame.

The rationale of the Council, who passed this with blessings from CAIR (Council of American-Islamic Relations), is that Muslims are approximately 12 percent of the student population and deserve to be recognized in the same regard that Christian and Jewish holidays are recognized during the school year. If this is allowed to stand, you will have every "religion" wanting their days off. Pagans and Wiccans will want Earth Day off. Satanists will be wanting days off for sacrifices. It's a mighty slippery slope.

"If you close the schools for every single holiday, there won't be any school," Bloomberg said. "Educating our kids requires time in the classroom, and that's the most important thing to us."

We are told we have to be tolerant. At what point does tolerance become surrender? We already have foot-washing basins in airports (paid for with our money), Muslim children can display their religious symbols in school without being kicked out, and the Flight 93 Memorial design is chock full of Islamic symbols. Don't believe me? Go the Department of Interior website and see the design for yourself. It'll make you sick.

This country was founded on Judeo-Christian principles, not Muslim traditions. It's time we get back to them and quit being so politically correct. It's the death of a thousand slices for freedom if this resolution goes into effect.

Um, does the school shut down on any Jewish holidays? Does it shut down on Ash Wednesday or Good Friday? Isn't this a violation of the lefts most lauded separation of church and state?

The schools do shut down on the holidays celebrated by the majority of students according to the article, Spinster.

The left's passion for the separation of church and state exists to establish their religion: Atheism. How I'd love to beat some of them about the head with my pocket Constitution!!

Have a great weekend Spinster!!!

I went to school in NY and if we as individuals wanted to take a religious holiday off, it didn't count as an absence, but the school did not shut down. This is insane!

Stories like this don't even surprise me with how upside-down our world has become. Unbelievable!

Spinster and LCR -- We're down the rabbit hole I tell you!!! Please go to the Dept. of Interior website to see the Flight 93 design, or get a copy of a book called "Crescent of Betrayal" about it. It goes overboard on the normal Muslim-pandering from the left.

Muslim parents teach their children to respect their teachers. From a very young age, we are taught that Islam teaches us that after our parents, our teachers are most deserving of respect.
It must be an extremely confusing time for the Muslim parent in Leytonstone, London. For up to 30 parents may face prosecution for withdrawing their children from school, disobeying the teachers in the school, simply to secure a decent moral upbringing for their children. The school had decided to have a week of lessons about lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender history. Part of this was a special adaptation of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet retitled Romeo and Julian as well as fairytales and stories changed to show men falling in love with men. Rather than filling the heads of impressionable boys and girls with fatuous drivel about gay penguins, schools should be ashamed of the fact that they are sending children out into the world barely able to read, write and add up properly. Muslim children are leaving schools without learning their cultural roots and linguistic skills.

The action was being taken against the parents as part of a policy of ' promoting tolerance'. So why not tolerate parents, who, for sincerely-held reasons, consider their children too young to be taught about gay relationships? This isn't education, its cultural fascism. A record numbers of pupils persistently played truant in 2006-07, with around 272,950 pupils persistently absent in 2007, missing more than 20% of school. We rarely see councils prosecute the parents of these persistent truants. Yet, the parents who removed their children as a one-off to protect their morality may be prosecuted!

If the local council does decide to go through with a prosecution, it would be in line with the government's approach to the Muslim community. Muslims who believe homosexuality is a sin would be labelled as extremists. Liberal totalitarianism is a growing phenomenon in Britain and the west in general but many people will be shocked that the school can override a parent's view of what's appropriate or inappropriate to teach their children.

This latest episode should be a wakeup call for Muslim parents. Muslim parents MUST explain our moral standards to schools and be prepared to take steps to protect our children’s morals and values from a growing agenda to impose liberal values upon them. This is an eye opening for those Muslim parents who keep on sending their children to state schools to be mis-educated and de-educated by non-Muslim monolingual teachers.

The solution of all the problems facing Muslim children is state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers. Those state schools where Muslim children are in majority may be designated as Muslim community schools. Bilingual Muslim children need state funded Muslim schools with bilingual Muslim teachers as role models during their developmental periods.

Iftikhar -- It's not just Muslim families facing the same issues. Many families of other faiths are put in the same situation.

Students in today's world are indoctrinated, not educated, by those who feel that it is fine to impose their lifestyle choices on everyone, particularly the homosexual community. The topic has no business being in the classroom, but yet the militant gay movement has pressured school districts worldwide to bow to their demands for "education".

As for myself, I would gladly accept any charges leveled against me if it means that I have the final say so in my children's education.

Thanks for your insight!
