It seems that an outbreak of "porkitis" has reached pandemic proportions in our nation's capital.
The Washington Examiner revealed Friday yet another earmark stuffed into the Interior-Environment appropriations bill. Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) is the author of this one. If it passes the Senate and gets signed by Dear Leader, this is where some of your money is going.
It seems that Ms. DeLauro attached a $150,000 earmark to the 2010 bill for renovations on The Sterling Opera House in New Haven, Connecticut. The problem? The venue has been empty since 1965 and not used as a theater since 1945. Kind of like money for the John Murtha "Airport to Nowhere". Disgraceful.
New Haven's unemployment rate is at a 17-year high at 8.4%, but Ms. DeLauro feels that renovating the Sterling Opera House will "generate tremendous interest in the arts." Yeah...and Obama MIGHT produce the official birth certificate.
How will people afford to attend swanky events at the opera house if they don't have a job, Ms. DeLauro??? You are an economic nitwit. And that's a statement coming from one.
Ms. DeLauro's Washington phone number is 202-225-3661.

Earmarks stopped happening with the Bush administration. Now they are emergency economic stimulus inserts, and are necessary to keep unemployment below 8%
Springfield, Missouri got a similar earmark a few years ago for a theater that was closed. It's now open, but it shouldn't have been been opened with federal tax dollars.
And please explain to me how the renovation of an opera house is a federal, and not a local, issue. If that opera house needs to be renovated why isn't the state or the city paying for it? Why do I have to send my tax dollars to renovate an opera house there's not a snowball's chance I will ever see?
Spinster: While those little piggies are having their roast beef, they're leaving us the little piggies that have none. If it were a viable venue, the free market would've had it up and running long ago.
Bill: I think it's great that the theater in Springfield has reopened, but you're right. Not with federal dollars.
Andrew: Even with all these earmarks in various legislation, unemployment is still above 8%. This is just courting the voters.
Seriously?
These people are ridiculous. I've got an empty spare garage that's falling down. I should go ask my congressman to earmark some renovations for me. It's would be more useful than half the junk they are spending on.
C-Gen: It is ridiculous. Wait until tomorrow's post!!!
LCR: Amen! I've become disillusioned with the GOP, and I know I'm not alone.
FL Tea party drama
The Port St.Lucie tea party was held at a community event called "Freedom Fest" which is held at the St Lucie fairgrounds. The Tea Party was held at section 2 of the fairgrounds. The City Council placed a huge sign in front of the section in an admitted attempt to hide the Tea Party. Next week the City Council is having a meeting and the Tea Party folks are planning to invade it.
I suggest calling the mayor and city council and telling them what you think the Mayor's/city council's phone # (407) 871 5159 and their website www.cityofpsl.com Let's pass this to every conservative tea party supporting site we can!!!!
You got it!!
