Obamacare: Let the Earmarks Begin!

Get ready folks. Here we go again.

It seems that the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions has already approved a government-run healthcare program that creates 84 new programs and allows for rationing of care through the Comparative Effectiveness Board. These are the people who will decide whether or not your treatment or the treatment of your loved ones is cost-effective. So much for being a free country!

Inside the legislation is also an earmark that Senator Tom Coburn (R-Oklahoma) is criticizing as the largest in history.

"It has the biggest earmark in history, and it's a mandatory earmark that never ends," he points out. "It's $10 billion to Senator [Tom] Harkin's subcommittee, which will be used for bicycle trails and jungle gyms, and farmers markets, and lighting -- supposedly under the guise of prevention and wellness." Have you ever seen what happens to a playground erected in a Great Society community? The gangs can't wait to tag it, and from there it becomes a veritable marketplace for the drug dealers. It's almost as certain as the sun rising in the east.

Coburn say the partisan Senate healthcare bill contains no limitations on abortion or the taxpayer funding of abortion, and will leave an estimated 36 million Americans uninsured. I guess partial-birth abortion will fall into that category. As a pro-innocent-life supporter, this makes my stomach turn. And at what point will the government say: "You have too many kids. You MUST have an abortion." They must have been studying the Chinese way of life.

Taxpayer-funded abortions are a slap in the face to every American. Instead of putting the responsibility of an unplanned pregnancy on those who, for various reasons, find themselves in that situation, the burden is once again set to fall onto the already overburdened shoulders of those who are against it. Whether you support abortion or not, since when did it become our responsibility to pay for it? I forgot...we wouldn't want Sasha and Malia to have to live with a "mistake".

Let your voices (and those who can't speak for themselves) be heard! And if Congress turns a deaf ear, THEY NEED TO BE FIRED!!!

Big Names and Big Bucks: Part 3

I apologize for taking so many posts to do this in, but there are sooooo many earmarks! Don't forget, either, that there are over 400 members of the House. It takes time to organize all of these.

In doing today's list, I've noticed more Republicans popping up. Although only 8 voted FOR cap and trade, the others must have decided to get their pet projects in while being able to say they voted against this crap.

I do need to make a correction on one member's list. John Lewis (D-GA) did not earmark for the Fort Valley Utility Commission's wastewater reclamation facility. He did, however co-sponsor an earmark for the city of Atlanta's sewer system infrastructure improvements. It was still a $500,000 dip into your pocket.

Again: *=co-sponsored earmark [PD]=Presidentially-directed earmark

Trolls: They're So Much Fun!

I had to put this up. Evidently, "anonymous" decided to be a smart-ass and say that I didn't list any Republicans on my House post yesterday. I hopefully did everyone proud with my reply. Here was the exchange:

Anonymous said...

Oh my gosh, earmarks to improve the environment and quality of life, what are those democrats thinking????

I notices that you didn't list any republican earmarks, probably because their focus is on ways to better destroy God's green planet, or impose their value system on other cultures. That might be embarrassing.

blackandgoldfan said...

Anonymous: If you would do a little further digging, you would find that I did a post on the Republican 8 and the earmarks they got in this legislation. I don't care WHAT party their from; ALL the earmarks are going to be posted.

As far as improving the environment and quality of life, how is renovating an opera house that has been empty since 1965 going to do that (Rosa DeLauro got that one)??? Also, a lot of these projects are going to require CO2-spewing machinery to do the work. Seems hypocritical to put that in a bill designed to reduce emissions and tax the American people out the wazoo.

And just how do the Republicans impose their values on other cultures?? Do you mean like the left-wing atheists who impose their values on the majority of Americans by screaming "separation of Church and state" when there is no such thing (read the Constitution)? Or do you mean the militant homosexual community imposing an ideal on the rest of America (gay marriage) that has repeatedly been voted down? Maybe you're talking about those who want to tax every single aspect of our lives (Congress). You know...the ones who can't make do with what they have and then turn around and force us to give them more money. Which one of these "Republican" agendas is it???

When you decide which one it is, come out from under your bridge and let me know, you troll!

They're so cute when they're mad! Too bad they sound so idiotic!

Earmarks and Analytics

In checking today's analytics, I've found that The Right Stuff has been hit by the House of Representatives five times today, and the average time on the site is over seven minutes.

Gee, every time I do an earmarks post, the House seems to hit the site. Coincidence??? You tell me!

To any House staffers who may be reading this: Tell your bosses I WILL NOT STOP exposing the waste and political favors for votes.

*singing "I always feel like somebody's watching me..."*

Cap and Trade Earmarks: Big Names and Big Bucks

I started going through the congressionally-directed earmarks in the House Interior and Environment Appropriations passed through the Wacky-Marxist debacle. A lot of names were repeated throughout, so I focused my attention on them. Then, I decided that I'd show what some of the more well-known names in the House got earmarked.

There's really not any particular order to these, but I'll try to get some sort of arrangement going as I type.

If you see a project with an asterisk (*), that means that the earmark was co-sponsored by more than one member of the House. I'm putting the whole dollar amount of the earmark rather than splitting it because I feel that no matter how many co-sponsors there were, they are all equally culpable.

Some members got Congressionally-directed and Presidentially-directed. If the project was Presidentially-directed (that means they kissed Barry's butt), the project will be marked [PD].

And awaaaay we go!!!

Jim Moran (D-VA) - Number of earmarks: 11 - Total: $7,675,000

$311,752,000

Aren't you glad you work so hard? Gonna start on the congressionally-delegated side. I'll probably have that ready for Monday. On the weekends, everyone has other stuff to do, and I think this is too important to go up when no one's paying attention. This oughta be a blast!!!

Cap and Trade Earmarks: The Presidentially-Directed Side -- Part One

I thought I'd start at the top of the food chain with the Cap and Trade earmarks. Crap rolls downhill, right? I'm going to do this in parts because I don't want people's eyes to glaze over part of the way through.

The presidentially-directed earmarks were made by none other than Dear Leader himself through the House Interior and Environment Appropriations. Some of them were also requested specifically by House members, but I want to put those earmarks with those who made them, so I'll probably do that under the congressionally-directed side.

This is what Barry requested and received in the Cap and Trade bill. It seems pretty repetitive, but I want everyone to know how he's spending the money you work so hard for. Pay special attention to how much money was earmarked for land acquisition. Those of you who may own property bordering one of these refuges: be extra vigilant. This is the money they will use to buy what they want from you (a bribe) before using eminent domain should you refuse to sell.

RED ALERT: Tonight's Menu....PORK!!

I guess this has kinda become my calling for now. I'm working on earmarks put into the cap and trade mess, but I had to table that for a preemptive strike.

The Senate version of the FY2010 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Appropriations Act is going to be coming up for debate and a vote. Citizens Against Government Waste (CAGW) has uncovered some projects stuffed into this legislation that are suspicious to say the least. While we definitely need to fund DHS, tell me if some of these don't have a rotten smell about them.

Buckle up, kids!!

  • $50,500,000 by Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Daniel Inouye (D-Hawaii), Senate DHS Appropriations Subcommittee member Mary Landrieu (D-La.), Senate appropriator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-Texas), Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.), and Sens. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.), Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.), John Cornyn (R-Texas), and Tom Udall (D-N.M.) for the National Domestic Preparedness Consortium (NDPC) in their states. The Senate bill appropriates $132 million to the NDPC without the earmark; Nev., N.M. and Texas already have $23 million for NDPC programs.
  • $43,300,000 by Senate DHS Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.): $39.7 million to construct the Advanced Training Center (ATC) and $3.6 million for an Operations Systems Center’s operating expenses; both are located in West Virginia. The Civil War Librarian blog reported that on May 31, 2008, Sen. Byrd visited the ATC’s new firing range, and told a crowd of more than 300 that “Today, the efforts of hundreds of people are spread before us like a blessing.” The blog noted that Sen. Byrd was “proud” that he secured $123 million in design and construction funds for the ATC since 1999, as well as $26 million from Customs and Border Protection. Byrd received one of “many rounds of applause” when he said “That ain’t chicken feed.”
  • $20,865,000 by Senate Appropriations Committee Ranking Member Thad Cochran (R-Miss.) and Sen. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) for the Southeast Region Research Initiative in Tennessee.
  • $10,000,000 by House Homeland Security Appropriations Subcommittee Ranking Member Harold Rogers (R-Ky.) for the National Institute for Hometown Security (NIHS). According to the Institute’s website, “NIHS is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 corporation. NIHS was organized in 2004 through the leadership of Kentucky Fifth District Congressman Harold “Hal” Rogers. Congressman Rogers suggested organizing the higher education institutions of Kentucky to more effectively compete for research funds and projects aimed at improving homeland security. The Kentucky Homeland Security University Consortium resulted from his efforts. NIHS is the administrative manager for the Consortium.” In other words, Americans are paying $10 million so these institutions can be more effective at getting more of the taxpayers’ money.
  • $900,000 by Senate DHS Appropriations Committee member Jon Tester (D-Mont.) for an Emergency Operations Center in the city of Whitefish, Montana. In 2007 Whitefish had a population of 5,849; the earmark equals $153.87 for every resident.
The number of projects decreased by 79.6 percent, from 113 in fiscal year 2009 to 23 in fiscal year 2010, while the dollar amount dropped by 31.9 percent, from $229.6 million in fiscal year 2009 to $156.2 million in fiscal year 2010.

Call your senators. Tell them the earmarks go or they do. This nation can't afford their pet projects.

Something's Working!!

In checking my Google analytics today, I found that after yesterday's post on Cap and Trade earmarks, I got 14 hits from the House of Representatives. Wait until they see the post I have planned for the near future!!!

Wonder why they're so nervous?

John Murtha: This Little Piggy Went to Capitol Hill...

I would hope and pray that people in this district WAKE THE *&@# UP and vote this clown out!

From Roll Call comes this article about His Royal Fatness. I'm just going to post the whole article as they have done a superb job.

Murtha Earmarks Funded Garment Company’s Sonar Project

By Paul Singer
Roll Call Staff
July 7, 2009, 12 a.m.

For the past several years, Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) has funneled more than $3 million in earmarks to a company in his district to build an underwater “swimmer detection” sonar system for the Navy to use to protect its docks and ships.

But the company, KDH Defense Systems, sews bulletproof vests. It had never built a sonar system and had no expertise in sonar engineering. The sonar project was to be the first product of a new “startup” company.

Documents indicate the company did have a plan — which never came to pass — to partner with other local defense contractors close to Murtha, and it also had the assistance of a lobbying firm that employed both Murtha’s brother and his former appropriations aide.

The firm ultimately ended up hiring a British company to do the engineering, fell into a dispute, lost its original military customer and by the end of last year had completed a prototype, which the company president said would have to be re-engineered before it can be produced in any quantity.

Murtha spokesman Matt Mazonkey said the project achieved its goal.

“This program was a research and development effort, not procurement, and a prototype was delivered, was tested and now is the property of the U.S. government,” he said. “KDH did develop and provide a sonar system, which was tested successfully by the government in December 2008.”

But court records suggest the prototype has had a troubled history.

In October 2004, Dave Herbener, president of KDH Defense Systems, made a presentation at a meeting convened by the Defense Department about his proposed “underwater intrusion detection system.”

According to slides of that presentation, Herbener said he already had a $1 million earmark for 2005 “supported by Congressman John P. Murtha ... funding is earmarked for KDH Systems.”

In the 2008 appropriations bill, Murtha secured $2.4 million for KDH for a “waterway threat detection sensor system,” and a 2006 press release from his office indicates that he also secured an earmark for KDH in the 2007 appropriations bill for a “waterfront perimeter detection system.” Murtha’s office offered no details about the total amount earmarked for this system.

In an e-mail to Roll Call on Monday, Herbener said KDH only received about $1.5 million for the sonar project, with the remaining funding going directly to other contractors.

KDH had no expertise in sonar systems. Herbener — a former employee of defense giant Lockheed Martin — founded a company in 2003 called KDH Defense Systems to sew bulletproof vests. In April 2004, KDH signed a $2 million contract with the Navy to sew the vests — though the company did not yet have a manufacturing facility.

But Herbener did have a strong background in radar. “My work with Lockheed included significant design, manufacture, and testing experience of sophisticated weapon systems with a primary focus on radar. It is my nearly 20 years of experience with Lockheed that helped me to develop our T3 Sonar,” he told Roll Call.

But when asked “Do you know how to develop a sonar system?” by a lawyer in a court case last fall, Herbener responded, “No, I do not.”

He also had a lobbying firm — KSA Consulting, which included Kit Murtha, the Congressman’s brother, and Carmen Scialabba, the Congressman’s former Appropriations Committee aide, as lobbyists on the KDH account. Herbener told Roll Call: “KSA Consulting has provided marketing and related services to KDH. KSA introduced KDH to Congressman Murtha.”

Herbener’s October 2004 slides for the swimmer detection project indicated that KDH was “teamed with” two other Pennsylvania companies with close connections to Murtha, Kuchera Defense Systems and Coherent Systems International — also a KSA client.

An attorney for Kuchera said “they have never teamed with KDH on any projects.” Herbener told a federal court that Coherent dropped out days after the initial contract was signed.

Kuchera and Coherent have received millions of dollars in earmarks from Murtha. Kuchera was raided by the FBI in January, reportedly as part of an investigation into the company’s government contracts. Coherent is party to a federal case in Florida alleging that other subcontractors skimmed from Coherent earmarks.

Herbener ended up hiring a British sonar company called Curtis Technology to develop the electronics for the underwater sonar, a relationship that dragged through a series of delays and disputes until Herbener finally filed suit in federal court in Pennsylvania in May 2008.

In testimony in that case last September, Herbener explained that the sonar project was not actually a project of KDH Defense Systems — it was a separate company that he established in 2005 called KDH Electronic Systems. That company “is a startup,” Herbener testified. “We were hoping this sonar system would be our first product.”

In September, Herbener told the court, “The program in general has gone waylaid.” Disputes with Curtis Technology led to repeated delays, and the original customer — the U.S. Navy — “has pretty much given up on us and they’ve moved on,” buying a similar system from a competitor company.

KDH shifted to an Army contract with the U.S. Special Operations Command when the procurement official overseeing the project moved from the Navy to the Army, Herbener said. But because of concerns about the project, “they’ve refused to reward the contract to us and we’re on the verge of running out of funding,” he testified.

Working with Curtis and other contractors, KDH managed to construct a prototype, but Herbener told the court: “The current prototype is a prototype. It’s not intended to be built in any kind of quantities.”

“Ultimately, to have a production system, we would most likely change out components, hardware, probably rearrange components, maybe redesign,” he said.

Herbener told Roll Call on Monday: “The situation with Curtis has definitely slowed down our progress. I am most confident that if the Curtis issues had not arisen, our sonar system would have been produced and in full operation by now.”

But he also said that the protype has been successfully tested four times and that KDH is continuing to make progress on the sonar system. Herbener said he has hired a new subcontractor and that “as funding permits we firmly believe we can field an end item production system in short order — possibly 3 to 6 months.”

Outbreak on Capitol Hill

{{w|Rosa DeLauro}}, member of the United State...

It seems that an outbreak of "porkitis" has reached pandemic proportions in our nation's capital.

The Washington Examiner revealed Friday yet another earmark stuffed into the Interior-Environment appropriations bill. Representative Rosa DeLauro (D-CT) is the author of this one. If it passes the Senate and gets signed by Dear Leader, this is where some of your money is going.

It seems that Ms. DeLauro attached a $150,000 earmark to the 2010 bill for renovations on The Sterling Opera House in New Haven, Connecticut. The problem? The venue has been empty since 1965 and not used as a theater since 1945. Kind of like money for the John Murtha "Airport to Nowhere". Disgraceful.

New Haven's unemployment rate is at a 17-year high at 8.4%, but Ms. DeLauro feels that renovating the Sterling Opera House will "generate tremendous interest in the arts." Yeah...and Obama MIGHT produce the official birth certificate.

How will people afford to attend swanky events at the opera house if they don't have a job, Ms. DeLauro??? You are an economic nitwit. And that's a statement coming from one.

Ms. DeLauro's Washington phone number is 202-225-3661.
