Wishy Washy...Thy Name is Newt

As I sat in glorious silence after the kids went to bed last night, I turned on Hannity and caught his interview with former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. I'll say that I used to respect Newt. Notice I said "used to."

The interview with Newt focused on Tuesday's beotch slap of the Democratic party in Virginia and New Jersey. Newt gave his thoughts on exactly what this all means for the upcoming elections to be held in 2010. Nothing earth-shattering in what he had to say about all of that.

What struck me as interesting was his spin when Hannity brought up the issue of Newt's endorsement of Dede Scozzafava in New York's 23rd District. Sean asked Newt for his opinion on what he (Newt) was thinking when he threw his support behind the RINO (Scozzafava). What I heard from the former Speaker made me throw up in my mouth a little.

Gingrich, instead of admitting HE was wrong, said that it was wrong for the GOP to give the people such a candidate as Dede. Huh? Yeah, the GOP made a HUGE mistake in that regard, but since when was Newt obligated to endorse her? Can't the man think for himself? If the GOP had brought forward BHO as a candidate, would Newt endorse him merely out of party loyalty instead of a loyalty to ideology?

Newt said that he endorsed Doug Hoffman because he was the candidate most likely to win. Omitted from that statement was the fact that Gingrich didn't endorse Hoffman until after Scozzafava dropped out. At any point before that, he was free to endorse anyone of his choosing, and he chose to endorse the RINO.

Since leaving Congress, Newt has become one of the faces that has characterized what has gone wrong within the GOP. His spine has all but vanished when standing on conservative principle. As speaker, I actually liked the guy. But he has become so moderate in recent years, I really don't trust anything he says. Fool me once...

Newt Gingrich is still free to exercise his First Amendment right and give his opinion, but I will most likely be trying to decipher the hidden message in his words from now on. Or at least until he learns to think for himself instead of trying to spin his way out of a sticky situation.

Newt is no moderate, because Conservatism is no extreme position. The thing about Newt is that he's sucked into the statist premises, their ridiculous paradigms and their Beltway cocktail parties.

If he had to go out into the wilderness and start his own small business - a refresher course in Capitalism - he'd see the world anew.

IF.

Maybe that would help him, Ran. For now, he's definitely no conservative. Sad to see what he's become.

Wow, I have so many thoughts running through my head after seeing Newt incredibly stupid explanation of his support for a liberal with a trunk. It really makes you wonder if both parties conspire with each other to lead us on a path of choose a side of the right/left paradigm while covering up what they are really doing.

It would surprise me not, BB. It's like the Dems keeping Obamacare in the forefront while trying to ram cap-and-trade up our wazoos.

I didn't watch him last night, but I did hear him on Hannity's radio show. He said the party fooled him with Scuzzyface. They lied to him about her views ... too bad Newt.

He thinks the reason there are only 2 Republicans out of 39 seats in that area is because they're not liberal enough. I would say just the opposite. Give them a clear choice and they will happily vote for a Conservative. Look at New Jersey and Virgina.

I have to agree, Odie. What really irked me was the way Newt blamed someone else for the decision he made in handing out his endorsement. Sounds like a lib to me!

Steve!!! Good to see ya again, bud!

Your comment is giving me an idea... ;-D

Newt became a water boy, and it's sad. How he could support someone that was endorsed by Acorn AND the Family Working Party is beyond me. All I can say so went the Whigs if this keeps up, and I blame Michael Steele, aka mr potato head, for this non-sense.

RG: He's blaming the GOP for HIS choice to endorse her. That's what really hacks me off.

Michael Steele seems to think that moderates are what Americans want. He couldn't be more wrong.

And how dare you insult Mr. Potato Head by comparing him to Steele? Mr. PH is WAY smarter! :-D

A lot of people do. There was a guy at this post that thinks partial birth abortion is a woman's right and the GOP needs to be an even bigger tent. nuts.

RG: It's the idea of a "bigger tent" that has torpedoed the GOP and gave us BHO. That was just an insane idea of PBA being a woman's choice. On one hand, someone could say that it is. But then there should be frickin' murder charges waiting for her and the butcher who does the procedure. Consequences of her "choice."
