Today marks another first for me: my first car accident. No worries...shaken, but not stirred. Really just a fender bender. The insurance company, who is not on our side, has already labeled the accident my fault. The fact that I've been driving for 25 years without an accident is, evidently, a non-issue. I look for my rates to go waaaay up. Pricks.
Now the real worry begins for me. Despite the fact that no one was injured and no ambulance was dispatched, I'm worried that the other driver is looking for a free ride and will try to stake a claim to my house and everything I own. Why should that even be a worry? Accidents happen every day, right? But, in today's litigious society, there are those who don't believe in accidents.
I take the car Tuesday for an estimate, and, with the Grace of God, all will be right with my Toyota before long.
Fighting the schools, fighting the insurance company....I need a vacation.

Hope you are ok! I've been driving for almost 20 years and last year got into an accident myself. Unfortunately it actually was my fault and I smashed the holy crap out of a girl's car, (I drive a full-size F-150, she had a Toyota Corolla). I can totally relate to your predicament!
Holy Camolie! I just hope your OK. I will be praying for you, and for the other person to realize that it was just an accident.
Glad you were not hurt!!
Keep your chin up!
Is that a pic from your accident or one from the internet?
Gosh, I am glad everybody is OK. That is the most important thing. I have been in a number of accidents, at fault about half the time. It is not so bad. Many ins co give a "free" accident. Just don't get into another one any time soon. Then your premiums will go up.
I'm fine LCR. Isn't it sad that the second thought behind "Is everyone okay?" is "Am I going to get sued?" The car I tapped was a 1996 Saturn, so totaling out that car is going to cost less than what it'll take to fix mine (2007 Toyota Yaris). Glad I have someone who understands what I'm going through. Thanks much, dude!
Teresa: Thanks for the prayers. I'm absolutely fine. It was like my passenger headlight grazed her passenger rear panel. No air bag deployment and I was still in first gear, so it could've been a lot worse. I'm soooo thankful it wasn't!
Opus: Pic from the net, sweetie. I was too tired to download any pics onto my computer.
I have to speak with our agent about "accident forgiveness." The only two claims we have are ones from 1996 (herd of deer jumped out) and 1988 (hubby rolled his pickup). I would hope that they realize we're not reckless drivers.
j: I'm just glad that the other driver and her daughter weren't hurt. Me? I'm a tough ol' mountain woman. Thanks for the advice! Maybe if I had done that yesterday... lol
Holy Crap, I did not know this, I wish you had emailed me, BOF, I haven't been on the blogs the last few days, gearing up for 9/12.
I am SO happy you were not injured. Try not to worry too much about the driver suing you. Write me with the details and we can strategize.
This is one reason I don't drive or own a car. In Chicago, the mutts are known to PURPOSELY run into you, then claim whiplash w/their rigged dr.'s and phony claims...so I don't drive, never did, never will! Hopefully it's not like that in this case!
I'm here to help you! I'm good w/ this legal stuff.
No wonder I love you!!!
I didn't email last nite only because by the time I got home and put up the post, I was so tired I just fell into bed and sacked out.
I will DEFINITELY email you with the details.
*b & g hugs and kisses to all*
I've had 9. 1 was my fault because my brakes went out. the rest were with females who either t-boned or rear ended me. One of those was a Gay male tourist who rear ended me right after I had stopped at the store and bough a giant slurpee. The impact put slurpee all over my lap. The homo who hit me looked at the damage to my mom's Cutlass 442 Hurst edition that had just ben repainted to original stock condition and had the bumbers rechromed from when the brakes had gone out on me weeks before and had been repainted and said "well, all it did to your car was put scratches on it tho I think we can jutht let this go."
Not only did he get a ticket, but he got a broken nose and black eye before my friends pulled me off of him. The cop, who I knew, asked me how his face got messed up because he said you hit him. My friends and I said it must have been his airbag. The cop said good enough for me. (His rental car didn't have an airbag)
It's been 7 years since I had a car accident amazingly.
Send me pics from all sides of the accident with a description of what the roads looked like. How many lanes, traffic signals and details of the accident. I have fought and won 7 times with the revenue collectors and insurance companies in court. I bet that if the accident is legally not your fault, I can prove it. See when a pretty girl is involved in an accident with a guy, who gets the ticket?
