Lakers Fans: Take a Lesson From Da 'burgh!

Demonstrations and riots, Paris, France (place...

Last night on Fox, I watched as they showed footage of the "celebratory" riots that occurred after the L.A. Lakers won yet another championship. This makes NO SENSE whatsoever!

My beloved Penguins have just won a championship. Yes, people poured onto the street to celebrate, but there were no riots. People weren't looting stores and burning cars the way they did in L.A. How is that celebrating? I personally think it's an excuse for the dregs of society to take what they want at an opportune moment.

Is this how a civilized society acts? I guess when you're a creation of the left's social policies (L.A.), you act the way government has dictated.

Do we really want the United States of Los Angeles?

Got Cup?

Sidney Crosby Hoisting the Stanley Cup

Those of you who know me could've seen this coming a mile away. Yes, my first post of the day is about the Stanley Cup coming home to Pittsburgh.

Last night's game was, in one word, AWESOME! Yes, the taste of victory makes it sweeter, but I have to give credit to the Detroit Red Wings for making this a fantastic series. They played with heart and helped make it a series I will long remember. Who knows? Maybe next year will be Detroit-Pittsburgh cup final #3. Both teams have the potential with mega-talent to spare.

Last night marks a few milestones for the Pens. Just a few:

  • Sidney Crosby becomes the youngest captain in the NHL to hoist the cup. He's 21.
  • The Penguins became the first NHL team since the 1971 Montreal Canadiens to win Game 7 of the last series on the road.
  • The Pens are the first team since the 1984 Edmonton Oilers to win a Final rematch against a team that bested them the previous season.
  • The average age of Pittsburgh's stars is 22 (based on Crosby (21), Staal (20), Letang (21), Talbot (25), Malkin (22), and Fleury (24)).
  • The Pens become only the fourth team in NHL history to come back from 0-2 to win the cup.
  • Mario Lemieux becomes the first Hall of Famer to win the cup both as a player and a primary owner of a team.
Thank you, guys. It's been a fun ride!

The Stanley Cup Finals

I wouldn't be a true hockey fan if I didn't say "Good Luck" to both the Detroit Red Wings and Pittsburgh Penguins. Tonight's game determines which city gets Lord Stanley's cup. It's gonna be good.

No offense to any Detroit fans, but I'd be banished from da 'burgh if I didn't say: GO PENS!!!

Can the Pens Win at the Joe?

After what was a heart-stopper of a game, the Pittsburgh Penguins will be traveling back to Detroit on Friday to play Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals at The Joe Louis Arena. Da Birds have yet to win one game of this series there.

Tonight's score was 2-1, evening the series at 3 games each. Both teams played very well, and, I'm happy to report, unsportsmanlike penalties were kept to a minimum on both sides. This was the kind of game a true hockey fans loves to watch.

To the Red Wings: Best of luck to you. To the Pens: Let's win one at the Joe.

A Win at the Joe Continues to Elude Pens

The Pens were just shut out 5-0 in game 5 of the Stanley Cup Finals. As a Pens fan, I'm disappointed in the loss, but even more disappointed in the lack of sportsmanship by the Penguins.

Numerous cross-checking, slashing, and fighting penalties were racked up by Pittsburgh. These were penalties that didn't need to happen, and you can't allow Detroit as many power plays as Pittsburgh did, especially with Datsyuk back on the ice.

I understand the frustration when you're behind in the score, but come on guys. Have a little more class than to go taking unnecessary and cheap shots.

Game 6 is Tuesday night back at the Igloo.

Stanley Cup Series Tied 2-2

My boys did it again. In what was a fantastic game, the Pens outscored the Red Wings 4-2.

Evgeni Malkin drew first blood in the first period. Detroit shortly thereafter evened the score. End of period one.

Detroit was the first team to strike in period two. Things did not seem to bode well for da 'burgh boys. That is until Jordan Staal scored a short-handed goal on a Detroit power play to tie it up again. Less than five minutes later, Sid the Kid and Tyler Kennedy had both scored goals. Three goals in six minutes is not an easy thing to do. Especially against a team of Detroit's caliber.

The third period was just a formality. Detroit came close to scoring a few times, but the Pens used the last fifteen minutes of the game to play keep-away.

The series heads to the Joe on Saturday and then comes back to the Igloo on Tuesday. Should they need game seven, it will be in Detroit on Friday, June 12. The rest of the games will be carried on NBC.

Pens Take Game 3

My beloved Penguins won tonight's game 4-2 after what was a disappointing start to the series. Sergei Gonchar had 2 goals, and the Pens seemed to have learned how to play Detroit style. Fleury was spot on tonight and had an amazing game. Definitely not the team I saw over the weekend.

I continue to wish Detroit good luck and hope for a sportsmanlike series, but I'd really like to see the Pens become only the 4th team in NHL history to win the cup after being down 0-2.
